Chinese woman living in Delhi disguised as monk arrested on spying charge

The woman has been identified as Cai Ruo and is a native of Hainan province in China.

The Delhi Police have arrested a Chinese woman for staying in India under a false identity and allegedly indulging in spying activities, officials said on Thursday.

The police said she has been living under the disguise of a Buddhist monk at Majnu Ka Tilla, a Tibetan refugee colony that is also popular with tourists near the Delhi University main campus.

The woman was residing in India as a Nepalese citizen with a Kathmandu address. However, investigations revealed that she is actually Cai Ruo, a native of Hainan province in China, police said.

During verification, a Nepalese citizenship certificate in the name of Dolma Lama, was recovered from her. However, a cross-check with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, revealed that she came to India in 2019 with a Chinese passport, police said.

She knows three languages – English, Mandarin and Nepali.

During questioning, the police said she claimed that some leaders in China’s Communist Party wanted to kill her.

The Delhi Police Special Cell said further investigations are being carried out in the case.
