Children of VIPs involved in gang rape of 17-year-old in Mercedes car at Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills area

Telangana Police have arrested one person in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Hyderabad's posh Jubilee Hills area on May 28.

In a press conference, Deputy Commissioner of Police Joel Davis said one Saduddin Malik has been arrested in connection with case. Out of the five people identified, three are minors, he disclosed.

The crime in the heart of the Telangana capital was allegedly committed by spoilt children and grandchildren of leading politicians, driving luxury cars. This has triggered strong protests in the state capital with BJP leaders launching a scathing attack against the government.

The police has clarified that the home minister's grandson is not involved.

"Victim couldn't reveal anything about culprits. She only revealed one name and special teams were immediately formed to arrest them. CCTV footage recovered. We've identified five culprits as per CCTV footage and as per the statement of the victim," Joel Davis said at a press conference.

The security footage showed the girl standing with the suspected attackers outside the pub where she had met them. The boys had offered to drop her home. But then veered off to a park where they assaulted her inside a Mercedes car. Her attackers took turns to rape her while the others stood guard outside the car.

A huge protest at a police station last evening saw shouting BJP workers being carried away by policemen.

The police initially registered a case of "outraging modesty" based on the girl's father's complaint. It was changed to a rape case later.
