CBI busts ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ style cheating racket that charged Rs 20 lakh to beat NEET system

The CBI has busted a real life racket modelled on famous Bollywood hit "Munnabhai MBBS" where expert “paper solvers” have been taking the exam for candidates to get them admission in medical colleges.

The racketeers were charging as much as Rs 20 lakh for a MBBS seat out of which Rs 5 lakh was paid to the paper solver, a CBI official confirmed.

The cheating operation in which 8 people have been arrested was spread across Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana .

The CBI arrested 8 scamsters from Delhi of which 6 were expersolvers. The mastermind is one Sushil Ranjan from Safdarjung, who deputed "paper solvers" and accepted payments. Eleven people were named in the case and police are looking for the others.

To broaden the scope of the investigation, the role of coaching institutions will also come under the scanner, officials said.

The racketeers made fake NEET ID cards using morphed photographs so paper solvers could gain entrance in the exam hall. The accused also collected user IDs and passwords of the candidates and made necessary changes to get examination centres of their choice.

The NEET for admissions to the MBBS and dental seats in medical colleges was held on July 17.
