Video: Policeman stealing bulb in Prayagraj

A policeman was suspended in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj after a video of him stealing a light bulb from outside a shop at night went viral.

In the CCTV video Sub-inspector Rajesh Verma, posted in Phulpur police station area of Prayagraj district, can be seen walking towards a shop which is shut and first looks around to see if anyone is around. He then then removes the bulb and after putting it in his pocket walks away from the spot.

The sub-inspector was on night duty on the day of a Dussehra fair on on October 6.

The accused was recently promoted, and had been posted at the Phulpur police station for the last eight months.

The suspended policeman now claims that he had taken the bulb and put it up at the spot where he was stationed, as it was dark there. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against him.
