A video captures the incredible sight of a monkey drinking beer out of a can in UP’s Rae Bareilly while an amused group of bystanders look on and urge him to finish the contents as he pauses to take a breath.
The monkey is reported to have become a nuisance as he has developed a liking for alcohol and has been breaking into liquor shops to steal drinks. The monkey has also been accused of snatching bottles of alcohol from people.
According to local media reports, an angry liquor shop owner said the monkey gets aggressive at any attempt to chase him away and the authorities have failed to act on complaints by shopkeepers.
However, District Excise Officer Rajendra Pratap Singh said that efforts are being made to catch the monkey with the help of the Forest Department, adding that customers would soon be rid of this problem.
