Incessant rain in Bengaluru on Saturday that led to waterlogging and disruption of traffic also saw the city recording its highest ever annual rainfall since records began.

By 8.30 pm on Saturday, the observatory recorded a further 4.6 centimetres of rain in the 12-hour period, taking the total rainfall this year to 170.6 cm breaking the earlier record of 170 cm.

The Bengaluru-Mysore Road once again submerged on Saturday as the Budanur lake overflowed due to heavy rain and water entered Mandya. The rainwater also entered several residential areas in the city. Severe traffic congestion was reported at Marathahalli and the surrounding areas.

As per the weather agency, an isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall spell is likely to continue over south Peninsular India during the next five days. “Fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm very likely over Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka Puducherry and Kerala.

Heavy rainfall is also predicted over Andaman and Nicobar Islands until October 19. Several regions along the west coast and central India are also expected to receive isolated heavy falls in the coming few days.

Meanwhile, dry weather is very likely to prevail over most parts of northwest and central India.
