An Akasa Air flight headed for Bengaluru turned back and returned to the Mumbai airport shortly after take-off as there was a burning smell in the cabin, a DGCA official confirmed on Saturday.

The remains of a bird were found in one of the engines of the plane after it was inspected on landing, the official said. However, no damage was found to the engine.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is looking into the incident.

Akasa Air was launched in August this year and aims to operate over 250 flights per week across nine domestic routes by the second week of October. The airline announced its entry in the Delhi market on Friday.
