Bangladesh mission in Delhi celebrates Victory Day

<strong>The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrated the Victory Day today on the golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh and India's historic victory over Pakistan 1971.</strong></p>
<p>
The mission paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, and remembered the supreme sacrifices of millions of martyrs of the independence war in a solemn celebration of the historic triumph in the nine-month war against Pakistani occupying forces.<br />
<br />
Acting High Commissioner Md. Nural Islam, accompanied by officers and staff of the mission, raised the red and green national flag as the national anthem played in the morning.<br />
<br />
He and others also placed wreaths at the portrait of the Bangabandhu at the Mission's Mujib Corner.<br />
<br />
Victory day message from Bangladesh President Md. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister A K Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out respectively by Press Minister Shaban Mahmood, A K M Atiqul Haque, Minister (Commerce), Mohd Rashedul Amin, Counsellor (Economic), and Md. Abdul Wadud Akanda, Counsellor (Political). Selim Md. Jahangir, Minister (Consular) took part in the discussion.<br />

During the event, a documentary on the journey of prosperity and development of Bangladesh in the last 50 years was screened followed by a minute's silence and special prayer remembering Bangabandhu and the war martyrs.<br />
<br />
In his speech, Nural Islam praised Sheikh Hasina for her dynamic and visionary leadership which has transformed Bangladesh into a middle income country. He said that about four lakh children and teenagers were among the great freedom fighters who had made a significant contribution to achieve the victory against Pakistani forces.<br />
<br />
In the afternoon, the officials of the embassy attended a virtual programme of public oath of golden jubilee and Mujib years administered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.<br />
