At least 13 killed as bus on Indore-Pune route plunges into Narmada river

At least 13 people died and 15 were rescued when a Maharashtra government bus plunged into the Narmada river at Khalghat in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.

More than 50 people, including women and children, were on board the bus which was travelling from Indore to Pune. Rescue operations are still going on at the site.

The accident happened at 10 am when the bus swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite side. The bus skid and fell directly into the river 25 feet below after crashing past the railing of the bridge. 

A crane was used to pull the bus out of the river.

The local police are reached the spot and divers are engaged in the rescue. An NDRF team has also reached the spot for relief.

Indore Commissioner Pawan Kumar Sharma has directed the collectors of Dhar and Khargone to reach the spot.
