Amit Shah chairs 72nd North Eastern Council plenary session in Agartala

Union Minister Amit Shah chaired the 72nd Plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) on Saturday.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced the commencement of the session via a post on X. The session is being held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.

According to the Tripura CM, the session will focus on important discussions related to the growth and development of the northeastern region of India.

“The 72nd Plenary of NEC chaired by Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, begins at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala. In the presence of Union Minister for DoNER JM Scindia & Union MoS for DoNER Sukanta, Governors, HCMs & high officials, joined the important NEC Meet that aims to discuss various matters including growth & prosperity of the NE region,” CM Shah’s X post read.

Earlier today, the CM also welcomed the Chief Minister and Governors of the North eastern states for the 72nd Plenary session of the North Eastern Council, as per a release from the Chief Ministers Office. (CMO)

This is the second time when Agartala has hosted the plenary since 2008 underscoring the city’s growth in the regional development discussions.

Meanwhile, on December 20, the Tripura Police made extensive security arrangements in Agartala ahead of Amit Shah’s visit.

State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan stated that central forces had also been deployed for the security arrangement. “It is a matter of great pride for us that high-level dignitaries are visiting. Extensive security arrangements have been made during this time. Large-scale deployments have been carried out, checkpoints have been set up, and routes have been earmarked. Detailed deployments have been made at all sensitive venues. Central forces have also been utilized,” Ranjan told ANI.

He further said that border security has been strengthened in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).

“Patrols have been intensified outside the city, and checkpoints have been increased. Border security has been strengthened in coordination with the BSF, and patrolling has been enhanced in those areas as well. Every effort is being made to ensure that this event is conducted smoothly and efficiently,” the DGP said.”

Comprehensive traffic arrangements have also been made, with management planned in such a way that no one faces any inconvenience. “We will make every effort to ensure the program is conducted successfully,” he added.
