In a bizarre incident, a huge iron bridge in Mumbai belonging to Adani Electricity company was stolen for its scrap value last month and the police have now arrested four people in connection with the robbery, Times of India has reported.
The iron bridge weighing 6,000 kg and about 90ft in length had been erected over a nallah in the Malad West locality in Mumbai to carry electric cables across by Adani Electricity. The temporary bridge was later replaced by a permanent structure at the site in April this year. The old bridge was dismantled and the company had kept it at Malad Back Road from where it was to be taken away. However, on June 26 the company found that the massive structure had mysteriously vanished. A complaint was then lodged with the local police.
As there were no surveillance cameras around the spot, the police checked CCTV footage of nearby areas and tracked down a vehicle moving in the direction of the bridge on June 11. The vehicle was also carrying gas-cutters which were used to break down the iron bridge for loading it onto the truck.
The registration number of the truck enabled the police to nab four persons for the theft of the bridge. One of the culprits works for the firm that had been given the contract to construct the bridge, according to the police.
A spokesperson from Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd. Told the ToI that the material stolen from the site has been recovered by Mumbai Police and investigations are still on in the matter.
