NSA Doval was the chief guest at the Dikshant Parade held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad on Friday

India will be known for its many accomplishments and will be one of the leading nations of the world when it completes 100 years of its freedom, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval assured the young Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in Hyderabad today.

NSA Doval was the chief guest at the Dikshant Parade held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) which saw participation of 149 officers, including 132 IPS officer trainees of the 73rd batch and 17 foreign officer trainees (five from Nepal and six each from Bhutan and Maldives).

"It will be a different India at that time. India is on a march and you will see that you will be leading these forces at a time when the country will have a new place in the international arena," Doval told the gathering.

Around 52 years ago, Doval had passed out from the same academy which has trained nearly 6000 officers since 1948 and played an important role in nation building during the post-independence period.

"You are for India and India is for you. The interest of India should be supreme… If internal security fails, no country can be great. The country can probably never grow if its people do not feel safe and secure," he said in his address.

However, the NSA said that the officers will have a bigger role to play in future than to just maintain law and order throughout the length and breadth of the country.

"You will have a greater role in border management spanning over 15,000 km covering Pakistan, China and Myanmar and Bangladesh, most of which has got peculiar problems and security issues of its own," Doval said.

He also emphasised that the new generation of officers will have to have a proactive approach in solving problems of the future.

"You will be hearing a lot about reforms… Reforms are learning from the past and not repeating the same mistakes in future. I want the younger generation not only to be thinking of reforms. You have to do the transformation, that is to think about the future and find the solutions today," the NSA commented.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy trains officers of the Indian Police Service, who have been selected through an All India based Civil Services Examination.

Friday saw only the sixth instance in the history of the academy when the parade was led by woman officer Darpan Ahluwalia, a topper of the 60-week training phase.
