In a major fire incident, at least seven electric bikes were burnt in a showroom in Pune city in Maharashtra. No one was injured in this incident which happened on Monday evening.

The fire department, according to an official, was informed around 8 p.m. and it took four fire tenders to douse the fire.

The e-bike shop is located in Gangadham area of Market Yard in Pune.

As per the fire brigade official the bikes were plugged for getting charged. Preliminary investigation points to a short circuit that possibly may have occurred due to overcharging which resulted in fire.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, said the fire brigade official, who added that in all, seven bikes had burnt.

It may be recalled that in March this year an Ola electric scooter had caught fire in Pune. Later, the company recalled 1,441 electric scooters for inspection.

There have been numerous other incidents of e-bikes and scooters catching fire and in view of this the Government has sent a show cause notice to companies for using inferior quality battery packs.
