14th round of India-China border meeting to take place on Wednesday

India and China will be holding the 14th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on Wednesday.

The last round was held on October 10 in 2021 during which the discussions between the two sides focussed on resolution of the remaining issues along the Line of Actual Control or the LAC in Eastern Ladakh.

The Indian side had pointed out that the situation along the LAC had been caused by unilateral attempts of the Chinese side to alter the status quo and in violation of the bilateral agreements. It was therefore necessary that the Chinese side take appropriate steps in the remaining areas so as to restore peace and tranquillity along the LAC in the Western Sector.

New Delhi had conveyed to Beijing during the last meeting, which was held after the interaction held between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Dushanbe, that it was agreed that the two sides should resolve the remaining issues at the earliest.

"The Indian side made constructive suggestions for resolving the remaining areas but the Chinese side was not agreeable and also could not provide any forward-looking proposals. The meeting thus did not result in resolution of the remaining areas," said a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs after October's Corps Commander meeting.

India had said that it expected the Chinese side to take into account the overall perspective of bilateral relations and work towards early resolution of the remaining issues while fully abiding by bilateral agreements and protocols.

While confirming tomorrow's meeting, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said today that the China-India border situation is "generally stable" at the moment.

"The two countries are maintaining dialogue and communication through diplomatic and military channels. We hope the Indian side can work with China, and strive to switch from emergency response to normalized management and control in the border area as soon as possible," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin in Beijing on Tuesday.

As reported by IndiaNarrative.com last week, Moscow is keen on increasing cooperation with its partners New Delhi and Beijing through the RIC (Russia-India-China) format.

However, the Narendra Modi government has made it clear that any future cooperation with Beijing, especially through the RIC trilateral, would majorly depend on China's complete disengagement from all the friction points along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh in accordance with the existing bilateral agreements and protocols.
