Radha Soami Satsang Beas (RSSB), a spiritual organization based on the teachings of all religions, has joined the nation’s fight against the deadly pandemic by making another 33 of its centres in various cities in the country available for setting up facilities to treat Covid patients.
The centres are located in states such as Punjab Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It has already thrown open its facility in Delhi for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
In the national capital, RSSB has teamed up with the paramilitary Indo-Tibetan Border Policy (ITBP) to care for the Covid infected. The Hindustan Times is reporting that RSSB volunteers are helping the ITBP at the sprawling Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Covid Care Centre (SPCCC) at Chhawla in western Delhi.
The RSSB volunteers have been working round-the-clock and tirelessly to provide free meals to not just the patients but also the doctors, paramedics, healthcare workers, ITBP personnel at the facility and the frontline workers, HT reported.
“On a daily basis 250 volunteers are preparing four meals a day – from Karra early in the morning, to breakfast, lunch, the evening tea and dinner – for every soul inside the Covid care centre,” said an office-bearer of the RSSB in Chhatarpur, in the capital, on Monday.
The RSSB had teamed up with the ITBP even earlier when the first wave of Covid 19 hit India. The organisation’s volunteers stepped in as soon as the ITBP, with administrative backing of the Delhi government set up the facility, which is 1,700 feet long, 700 feet wide and has 200 enclosures with 50 beds each. Today, the SPCCC have become a 500-bed centre with oxygen support for patients suffering from Covid-19.
Between March and August 2020, the RSSB had sent 135,000 food packets for Covid-19 patients and their caregivers.
The RSSB has also positioned itself at the frontline of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign. The largest camp at the Pusa Road centre in Delhi (operated by BLK/ Max) has the capacity to vaccinate 10 thousand people per day.
According to an RSSB statement, the central government, local authorities, local business, healthcare groups have all come together to coordinate a response and in most cases at the risk their own wellbeing to be of service to those in need. The coming days might be more difficult and darker but their service gives spark to the hope that shall see us through.
RSSB said one of the key tenants of the faith is Seva, selfless service towards the community which was being followed in practice.
