Pink Booth in Udhampur to facilitate vaccination for women and girls

With a view to ensure that women get themselves vaccinated and also increase inoculation coverage for Coronavirus pandemic, an all-women Covid-19 Vaccination Centre – Pink Booth – was set up in Udhampur’s district hospital in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to an ANI news report posted on in.news.yahoo.com Jyoti Devi, a health worker at the district hospital informed that the booth was inaugurated on July 16 (Friday).

The Deputy Commissioner of Udhampur, Indu Kanwal Chib inaugurated the Pink Booth Covid-19 vaccination exclusively for women in presence of the Chief Medical Officer Dr K C Dogra at the District Hospital,

The booth is manned by all-female staff – from the stage of registration to vaccination – thus making the women beneficiaries comfortable and at ease. Moreover, the pink colour of the interiors give an elegant and engaging feel to the centre.

The idea with which the pink booth was started seems to have clicked as many women came to the Centre for vaccination. While appreciating the thoughtful gesture on the part of the authorities, they felt at ease in the comfortable environment.

Speaking to the news agency, Sonakshi Jagotra observed: "The atmosphere here is very comfortable. We are thankful to the authorities for the same. Now the vaccination process is much easier.”

Akriti Gupta, another beneficiary who had come with her mother, told the media that the long waiting and queues at the district hospital dissuaded women from going in for the vaccination. “This initiative will encourage women to take the vaccine who might procrastinate wanting to avoid long queues. A lot of people used to turn back after seeing the rush at this district hospital.”

According to her, the problem of discomfort faced by women at the vaccination centre has been resolved with the setting up of 'pink booth'.

Dr. Vijay Raina, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Udhampur averred that the move to have a pink booth the hospital has given women and girls a separate space for vaccination. “Because of the large-scale vaccination drives that are taking place, women, especially with children, face a lot of problems standing in queues to get their vaccination done. In the coming days, this concept will attract a lot of people."
