Besides the equipment to assist the patients, the drivers of the auto ambulances have also been given training to perform basic emergency health support such as the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) so as to ease breathing in patients. They have been also trained to put oxygen masks on patients and check pulse rate. With the increase in Coronavirus cases, regular ambulances are scarce and auto ambulances have turned out to be a good option to ferry patients to hospitals and back home.

The project has been launched as part of a CSR initiative by the private hospital in the city.

The traffic police department has given masks and PPE to drivers and the helpline will be managed by it.

Talking to the media, the NARCA president Lal Babu said the three-wheelers will be able to ferry one patient and an attendant at a time. Patients from Noida and Greater Noida can be taken to any Covid hospital in the city or in Delhi.

While the oxygen cylinders have been provided as part of the CSR initiative, the traffic police officers have said they will try to ensure free refilling with help from NGOs.

Giving further details, Traffic Inspector Ashutosh Singh said: “So far, 20 auto drivers have agreed to ferry patients. We are in talks with NGOs to get more oxygen cylinders.” He added that the fare has been fixed after a discussion with the transport department.

The Zonal Director of Fortis Hospital Noida observed: “The service will help patients from across the city to reach hospitals for treatment.”

DCP Saha also informed that the Traffic Police is consistently engaged in assisting people. He added that from making a green corridor to spreading awareness about the COVID appropriate behaviour the police is actively helping people.
