Marshals appointed to ensure strict adherence to Covid-related norms in Bengaluru

<strong>On July 3, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner, Gaurav Gupta, made it clear that there will be no let-up in maintaining Covid-19 related norms in the city. He announced that 54 teams of marshals have been formed with the aim of imposing fines on all those who don’t follow the norms.</strong></p>

He addressed a coordination meeting on implementation of Covid-19 rules effectively within the BBMP limits at the Town Hall. Gupta said there has been a decline in the cases of Covid-19 as it has come down from 20,000 cases every day to 600 to 700 a day.</p>

Talking to news agency ANI, Gupta said: "This can be further contained only if citizens follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. Fifty-four teams have been formed to impose a fine on those not following Covid norms such as wearing masks and maintaining distance.”</p>

Sharing further details, Gupta added: “Each team will have four marshals who will visit and regulate highly crowded areas. Also, areas, where Covid rules are disobeyed the most, will be visited by senior zonal officials, health officers and notice will be issued and the place will be consequently locked down.”</p>

The Chief Commissioner emphasised on the need for effective enforcement of Covid-19 related rules especially in the public spaces in the city including business areas, wedding halls and market areas. "People can be safe only if the guidelines are followed diligently," he observed.</p>

The Commissioner of Police of Bengaluru City, Kamal Pant, said the authorities have put in place many steps to curb the spread of the virus in the city.</p>

He informed that in case arguments arise while the marshals enforce the rules and fine those disobeying the orders, the police personnel will step in. They will provide necessary security cover for the marshals while ensuring that measures are followed and stern action is taken against those flouting the rules.</p>

He told the news agency: "The police personnel will work in tandem with the marshals. Although the cases have decreased in the city, the virus is still around. All citizens must follow Covid guidelines without fail. The Police department will provide the necessary support to BBMP.”</p>
