Limbs on Wheels flagged off in Mumbai to fix prosthetic arms on amputees in rural areas

In an attempt to help accident victims in remote rural areas, a van christened “Limbs on Wheels” was flagged off in Mumbai.

This customised van is completely equipped with all necessary facilities to produce and fit prosthetic arms in villages, thus giving hope to those who have lost their hand(s) in an accident or don’t have them since birth.

The van has been sponsored by Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospitals Group for the Inali Foundation. The Foundation works in the field of prosthetic arms and provides them to those who don’t have the means to access them due to personal or financial reasons.

The van has been specially modified to be able to carry up to 1,000 prosthetic arms in one go for fitment. It will also accommodate three staff members from Inali Foundation to carry out the fitment of the prosthetic arms.

Besides this the vehicle is also fitted with the equipment to make prosthetic arms at any desired location.

The Foundation will set up camps for 10 days in different rural locations to provide access to specially-abled people to prosthetic arms.

The van was flagged off by Padma Shri Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan, Chief Vitreo Retinal Services of Aditya Jyot, a unit of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital. He said: “This is a very proud moment to be associated with such a noble initiative to provide limbs for the needy and poor. The van will support the foundation’s cause, helping reach the most remote parts of India and helping the affected.”

Inali Foundation’s Founder and Director Prashant Gade who was also present on the occasion, thanked Dr. Natarajan and Agarwal’s Eye Hospital for their generosity.
