With the administration of 73,63,706 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 126.53 crore, figures released by the health ministry on Saturday show.

The number of fresh coronavirus cases in the country fell to 8,603 from 9,216 on Friday, and have remained below the 10,000 mark in recent days. India’s active caseload presently stands at 99,974.

Over 84% people in the country have now received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, with more than 125 million people due for a second by the end of November. The government has accelerated the pace of vaccination as the Omicron variant of Covid-19 has emerged as the new danger worldwide.

"Given the fast pace of vaccination in India and high exposure to Delta variant … the severity of the disease is anticipated to be low," the ministry said in a statement. "However, scientific evidence is still evolving."

The Health Ministry said that the testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 12,52,596 tests being conducted.

While testing capacity has been enhanced across the country, the Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.81% remains less than 1% for the last 20 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.69%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for the last 61 days and below 3% for 96 consecutive days now.
