India’s daily count of new COVID-19 cases jumps to 84-day high, metro cities record surge

The daily count of new COVID-19 cases in India shot up to 4,041 which is the highest level in the last 84 days, according to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Friday.</p>
<p>
The total number of active coronavirus cases nationwide has now risen to 21,177.</p>
<p>
The number of deaths due to coronavirus has jumped to 10 in the last 24 hours which include six from Kerala, two from Delhi and one each from Maharashtra and Nagaland.</p>
<p>
There has been a sharp increase in coronavirus cases in the metro cities of Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.</p>
<p>
Mumbai has recorded over 700 fresh cases of COVID-19  as the Covid situation has changed dramatically in the last 15 days. There has been a surge of nearly 200 per cent in the number of cases being reported.</p>
<p>
Chennai is also registering a steady rise in the  last fortnight with an over 100 per cent jump.</p>
<p>
Delhi recorded as many as 373 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, according to the health department’s bulletin. The positivity rate in the national capital has gone up to 1.85 per cent which shows the number of people that turn out to be positive for coronavirus in every lot of 100 that is tested.</p>
<p>
On Wednesday, Delhi had recorded 368 COVID-19 cases and no death, while the positivity rate was 1.74 per cent.</p>
<p>
The daily positivity rate for coronavirus has increased to 0.95 per cent nationwide while the weekly positivity rate stood at 0.73 per cent, according to the health ministry.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, the cumulative vaccine doses administered in the country so far has exceeded 193.83 crore.</p>
