India’s daily count of fresh COVID cases surges to 7,240, Mumbai is worst hit

<p>
India reported 7,240 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, a nearly 40 per cent jump from the day ago, as infections soared sharply in several states including Maharashtra and Kerala, according to figures compiled by the Union Health Ministry.</p>
<p>
On Wednesday Maharashtra reported 2,701 fresh cases, its highest infection count since January 25. As many as 1,765 of these infections were reported from Mumbai which is a four-month high for the city.</p>
<p>
Daily coronavirus infections in India crossed 5,000 after 94 days  taking the total tally of active cases to 32,498. </p>
<p>
There were eight deaths due to the disease, official figures updated at 8 am showed.</p>
