India’s daily count of fresh COVID-19 cases jumped by 38.4% to 12,213 in the last 24 hours, from 8, 822 infections recorded yesterday.
This is the first time since February 26 that the coronavirus infections have crossed the 10,000-mark in a day.
The number of deaths due to coronavirus have gone up to 11.
India's active COVID-19 caseload currently stands at 58,215, the Health Ministry said.
Delhi reported 1,375 new cases on Wednesday with the positivity rate rising to 7.01 percent. This is the second consecutive day that the national capital recorded over 1,100 cases in a day.
Maharashtra recorded 4,024 new coronavirus cases. more than half of which were from Mumbai. The state has registered a 36 percent rise in the number of coronavirus cases over the previous day, and two deaths due to the disease, the state health department said.
Wednesday's case count was the highest since February 12 when the state had recorded 4,359 cases.
Mumbai has reported the highest number of Covid cases in Maharashtra at 2,293, its highest daily count since January 23.
Four new cases of B.A.5 variant of coronavirus have been detected in the state. New B.A.5 cases were reported from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, and all four patients were in the age group of 19 to 36 years, according to an official release.
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 vaccination doses administered in the 12-14 years age group, which started on March 16 this year, has crossed the 3.53 crore mark.
