Indian Railways to run another 660 trains as Covid curve flattens

With the flattening of the coronavirus curve, Indian Railways is increasing the number of special trains it is running to facilitate the traveling public. There will now be an additional 660 trains for the movement of migrant labour and clearing the waiting list in various origin destination clusters, the Railway Ministry informed.</p>
<p>
The swift movement of labour will help industry to rebound after the brutal second Covid wave led to a drastic scaling down of economic activity. </p>

During the pre-Covid period, an average of about 1768 Mail/Express trains were operating daily. As on June 18 about 983 Mail/Express trains are being operated daily which is about  56% of the pre-Covid level. The number of trains is being increased gradually as per demand and commercial justification, the official statement said.</p>
<p>
About 800 Mail/Express trains were in operation as on June1. Approval has been given for operating another 660 additional Mail/Express trains in the last fortnight.</p>
