India records over 10,000 fresh Covid infections for 4th straight day, 19 deaths in last 24 hours

India has recorded 10,093 Covid cases and 19 deaths due to the disease in the past 24 hours. This is the fourth day in a row on which the country has registered over 10,000 coronavirus cases in the recent surge.

The number of active Covid cases in the country has now gone up to 57,542. The daily positivity rate, which shows the number of confirmed cases in every 100 persons tested, has increased to 5.61 per cent.

Health department officials said the new Omicron strain is responsible for the fast spread but the severity is low. At present, only about 3 per cent of the hospital beds set aside for Covid patients are occupied in Delhi.

Though the admission rate in hospitals for Covid infections remains low, the number of people requiring medical attention has gone up sharply. Doctors have also advised that patients undergoing treatment at home must check their oxygen level as cases of low oxygen have been found after 4 to 5 days of the onset of the disease.
