India recorded a 30% jump in the daily count of fresh COVID-19 cases with 17,336 infections in the last 24 hours, the highest since mid-February.</p>

The total number of active cases in the country has now gone up to 88,284, giving rise to fears of a new wave that may strike the country.</p>

The 5 states which reported the highest number of cases today are Maharashtra (5,218), Kerala (3,890), Delhi (1,934), Tamil Nadu (1,063), and Haryana (872).</p>

The cases doubled in Delhi yesterday to touch the highest level since February 4.</p>

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a high-level meeting yesterday to take stock of the situation and directed officials to continue to focus on surveillance and whole genome sequencing to scan any possible mutations.</p>
