Delhi to get its first drive-in vaccination centre on May 26

With both Gurugram and Noida and Greater Noida having drive-in vaccination centres, it is now the national Capital which will get one. Delhi’s first drive-through vaccination centre will come up at Dwarka on May 26.

The centre will be inaugurated by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, according to PTI news agency.

The first drive-in centre is a collaboration between the Delhi government, and the Akash Healthcare Super Hospital. The drive-through Covid vaccination booth, the national capital's first, will open at Vegas Mall in Dwarka locality. The mall is located in Sector 14 of Dwarka, a South-West Delhi locality.

The vaccines will be available for people between 18 and 45 years and those above 45. As many as 2,000 vaccines will be administered to those from the underprivileged section.

The price of the vaccine at the drive-in is Rs.1,400 while for the walk-in it is Rs.1,000. While in the beginning only Covishield vaccine will be available, later the hospital is expecting other vaccines too.

Speaking to Times of India, Dr. Aashish Chaudhry, Managing Director of Akash Healthcare, Dwarka said: “We were constantly thinking about people who are old with ailments and probably can’t afford to walk all the way to a centre to get vaccinated. We also realised that people were hesitant coming to a hospital, hence, we spoke to the mall authorities, who readily agreed. For people who can’t use a smartphone or are not technology-friendly, we will launch a number, which they can contact and reach the mall where they will be registered and walk-in vaccinations will be done.”

In order to apply for this, one must first register on the CoWin website, select the centre. Following this they will be redirected to a page where payment has to be made digitally.

On reaching the mall, entry is allowed on showing the message following which they have to fill a form. Thereafter they can go to one of the booths to get vaccinated.

Discussions are on to have another such facility in South Delhi which could be either walk-in or drive-in.
