Delhi records 82% jump in fresh COVID-19 cases, positivity rate shoots up to 6.5%

<p>
The daily count of fresh COVID-19 infections in Delhi jumped to 1,118 cases today, which is 82 per cent more than the 614 infections recorded yesterday.</p>
<p>
The total number of active coronavirus cases in the national capital now stands at 3,177. Two deaths were also reported in Delhi due to the disease in the last 24 hours.</p>
<p>
The positivity rate, which shows the number of cases that turn out to be positive in per 100 tests, has now shot up to a disturbing 6.5 per cent.</p>
<p>
Nationwide 6,594 Covid-19 coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours, down from 8,084 infections recorded till Monday morning. The total number of active cases have now gone up to 50,548.</p>
<p>
The daily and weekly positivity rates are 2.05 and 2.32 per cent respectively.</p>
<p>
The Omicron sub-variant BA.4 and BA.5 have been found in patients with coronavirus infection in Mumbai, in the latest round of genome sequencing conducted at the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, 195.35 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the country which has helped to contain the spread of the disease.</p>
