Daily count of fresh Covid cases shoots up, 5 deaths recorded

India recorded 1,134 fresh Covid-19 cases and five deaths in the last 24 hour, according to Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The active caseload of coronavirus cases has gone up to 7,026 in the country.

Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat Kerala and Chhattisgarh accounted for one death each.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.09 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.98 per cent.

As many as 1.04 lakh tests for coronavirus have been conducted in the last 24 hours.

According to the ministry’s website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive. This has helped to keep the infections under check, but the fresh surge is giving rise to concern as people once again  need to wear masks and avoid crowded places.
