The daily count of fresh Covid-19 cases in India declined to a 111-day low of 34,703 in the last 24 hours, according to data compiled by the Health Ministry on Tuesday morning.
The country’s active caseload has come down to 4,64,357, the lowest level in 101 days as another 51,864 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The daily recoveries continue to outnumber the daily fresh cases for the 54th consecutive day showing that the ferocious second coronavirus wave that had swept across the country is continuing to recede.
The daily count of fresh coronavirus cases had at the peak of the devastating wave crossed the 4 lakh mark in early May with the sudden surge overwhelming the country’s healthcare system.

The weekly positivity rate has now fallen to 2.40% while the daily positivity rate is at 2.11% and has been less than 3% for the last 15 days in a row.
Meanwhile, 35.75 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far as the free vaccines for all drive is picking up further momentum with as many as 45 lakh doses being administered on Monday. The number of people vaccinated in the 18-44 age group, which was the last to be covered under the inoculation drive has crossed the 10.57 crore mark.
