Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar down with Covid-19

India’s cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said on Saturday he has contracted Covid-19 novel and has mild symptoms as infections continued to surge in country.

Tendulkar, 48,  had hung up his boots in 2013 after scoring a trail blazing record 100 international centuries in a brilliant 24-year career.

“I have been testing myself and taking all the recommended precautions to ensure Covid is kept at bay. However, I have tested positive today following mild symptoms,” Tendulkar said on his Twitter handle.

“All others at home have tested negative. I have quarantined myself at home and I am following all the necessary protocols as advised by my doctors.”

Tendulkar lives in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra which has been the hardest hit state in the second Covid-19 wave. The state recorded an all-time high of 36,902 new cases on Friday with Mumbai reporting as many as 5,515 cases.

The state government has announced a night curfew from Sunday to fight the spread of the virus and lockdowns may also be clamped in some districts.

Tendular had recently participated as captain of the India Legends team in a promotional event called the Road Safety World Series in Raipur, in Chhattisgarh.
