The number of coronavirus cases in Delhi jumped by 50% to 2,716 on Saturday the highest level since May 21 when around 3,00 cases were recorded. One death was also registered due to the disease.</p>

The positivity rate has also gone up to 3.64 per cent which indicates that infections are likely to surge further.</p>
<p>
On Friday, the national capital had recorded 1,796 cases and a positivity rate of 1.73 per cent which had gone up from 1,313 infections on Thursday, according to official figures.</p>
<p>
The increase in fresh cases taking place amid a significant jump in cases of the new Omicron variant in the city.</p>
<p>
The city has closed down schools, cinema halls and gyms, set 50 per cent occupancy rules Delhi Metro and private offices and clamped a night curfew to contain spread of the disease.</p>
<p>
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Saturday said whether more curbs need to be imposed in the national capital will be reviewed although hospital admissions are not worrying so far.</p>

He also said that 3,000 separate beds were being kept ready for children as part of the preparedness to tackle the disease,</p>
<p>
The government has also urged people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour to prevent spread of infections and avoid a third wave.</p>
