AIIMS Delhi to go paperless from Jan 1 in green drive

With a view to save trees and reduce carbon footprints, India’s premier medical institution, the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi has decided to go paperless from January 1 next year. From 2023 an e-Hospital programme will be implemented.

A demonstration of e-Hospital modules – OT, clinical and telemedicine — was held last week by the team from National Informatics Centre (NIC) team for the different heads and chiefs of centres and IT/Telemedicine/OPD nodal officers of all departments, as per a communication from the Director of the Institute, Dr. M. Srinivas.

With the implementation of e-Hospital the Ayushmann Bharat Health Account (ABHA) identity will be mandatorily generated for all patients at the new Rajkumari Amrita Kaur OPD. Further, automated emails will be sent to doctors concerned about their next-day appointments.

The communication said: “OPD appointments will be doctor (faculty/senior residents) specific. System would have arrangements for redistribution in case of non-availability/leave etc. Dashboards should be available for OPD statistics.”

Also 10 to 12 barcodes for samples for a common panel of tests may be printed at the time of admission registration and included with the admission sheet for OPD patients.

For the smooth implementation and functioning of going paperless an oversight monitoring committee and a working committee will be constituted. The communication said: “Nodal IT officers will be nominated by all departments/centres/sections for coordination with NIC and computer facility.”
