The Army Institute of Cardio Thoracic Sciences (AICTS) in Pune successfully carried out a heart transplant of a 40-year-old brain-dead army veteran to the wife of a serving soldier who was suffering from a cardiac ailment.
The heart of the Army veteran was flown from Delhi to Pune in a special plane of the Indian Air Force through a green corridor.
The Army veteran, who donated his heart, had suffered serious injuries in an accident on February 8 in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind.
The green corridor was established by a Southern Command unit in coordination with the Pune traffic police.
This was the second heart transplant surgery by AICTS in a fortnight.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the work of the AICTS doctors on performing a second heart transplant in two weeks.
