3-year-old Mumbai boy’s organs saves 4 lives

Despite having died so young, a three-year-old boy from Mumbai’s Dombivili saved the lives of four people thanks to the organs donated by him. The boy’s parents after he was declared brain dead decided to help others.

As per the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre officials, the boy is among one of the youngest donors in Mumbai.

The boy playing outside his house suffered an intracranial bleeding when a stationary bike fell on him. He was rushed to the local hospital and from there to Wadia Children’s Hospital where he was operated upon. He remained critical and was declared brain dead.

Subsequently on his parents’ deciding to donate the organs, the kidneys were given to end-stage patients in Parel’s Global Hospital and Peddar Road’s Jaslok Hospital respectively.

As there was no age-appropriate recipient available locally, the heart was sent to Chennai. The liver was provided to the patient who is registered at L.H. Hiranandani Hospital in Powai.

Minnie Bodhanwala, Wadia Hospital CEO praising the parents told TOI: “They turned their unimaginable grief into an extraordinary act of compassion and generosity that will forever inspire us.”

According to the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation’s new guidelines, all the staff of the hospital stood around the donor’s body to salute him.
