Watch: FM Nirmala Sitharaman’s post Budget press conference

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that India is moving along to become a $5 trillion. Addressing the customary post Budget press conference.

She said that the emphasis points are on four areas:

  • Empowering women with thrust on self-help groups
  • Tourism sector—concrete action plans will be rolled out
  • People called Vishwakarmas, who create things with hands
  • Green power

“We are looking at a futuristic financial sector,” Sitharaman said while addressing media people.

Training manpower for industries and digital economy will also be further boosted.

She added that personal income tax has also been tweaked in a manner that it will provide much awaited relief to the middle class.

The Finance Minister said that the new taxation regime has now got greater incentives for people so that they can unhesitatingly move to the new tax regime. However, she added that there is no compulsion.
