In another drug bust, Customs officers at the Delhi airport have arrested a Ugandan woman who was trying to smuggle close to 1 kg of cocaine into the country.

The woman arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) after having swallowed 91 capsules containing a total of 992 grams of cocaine, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.

Customs officers had identified the Ugandan passenger, who arrived at Terminal-3, IGIA a few days back. The gait and body movements of the passenger were unusual so the Customs officers maintained a vigil on her. Upon questioning, the passenger finally divulged that she had swallowed 91 capsules of narcotic substance.

The capsules were extracted from her system at the government-run Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in the city over a number of days through a proper medical procedure. A lab test confirmed that of white powder that came out of the capsules was heroin, according to the official statement.

The passenger has been arrested for violating various provisions of the NDPS Act. Further investigation in the matter is in process.
