Traders’ body organizes boycott of Chinese goods

Come June 10, a mega campaign ‘Indian goods-our pride,’ underscoring the need to boycott Chinese goods across the country, will take off.

The campaign, initiated by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) amid rising trust deficit with China and its ongoing military aggression on Indian borders, is aimed at traders as well as consumers, urging them not to sell or buy Chinese goods.

CAIT has urged Indian consumers to buy indigenous products in place of Chinese goods instead. This will also promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for “Vocal for Local.” “The CAIT is committed to make the PM’s vision a grand success and will play a major role to achieve it,” the association said in a statement.

Announcing this campaign yesterday, CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal said that China has always been India's antagonist in important matters and most importantly in promoting Pakistan's devious tactics and terrorism against India. “Even last year, when the Pulwama attack took place, China tried their best to protect Masood Azhar. This clearly shows China’s attitude and approach towards India. CAIT has been continuously campaigning from time to time for boycott of Chinese products for the last four years on the back of government’s strong push for ‘Make in India’ programme,” the statement said.

CAIT has prepared a list of 3,000 products which includes FMCG, consumer goods, toys, festive goods, fabrics, textiles, stationery, paper, food items, electrical, electronics, and builder hardware that need to boycotted. It also said that the Indian manufacturers have an important role in the Chinese product boycott.
