Japan flags new Delhi Metro Pink Line section, promises more assistance

Japan is always willing to support the efforts of Delhi Metro, said Satoshi Suzuki, the Ambassador of Japan to India

The Delhi Metro Pink Line section between Najafgarh and Dhansa Bus Stand, which has been supported by Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan, was opened for public today.

The Phase 3 project directly serves the town centre of Najafgarh, South-West Delhi and enhances the public transport network there.

The inauguration of this section also marks the completion of all projects of Delhi Metro Phase 3 which have been supported by Japanese ODA Loan.

Oriental Consultants Global as the project management consultant; Nippon Steel as the manufacturer of iron rails; Mitsui as the supplier of iron rails; Nippon Signal as the supplier of signalling systems; Mitsubishi Electric as the supplier of the propulsion system for the rolling stocks are the Japanese companies which have played a major role in the newly-inaugurated sections of Delhi Metro.

"I would like to affirm that Japan is always willing to support the efforts of Delhi Metro.Japan's continuous involvement in the Delhi Metro Project is testimony to the firm cooperation and friendly relationship existing between Japan and India," said Satoshi Suzuki, the Ambassador of Japan to India.

Japan has also decided to support Delhi Metro Phase 4 and already exchanged notes for the provision of ODA loan amounting to approximately 120 billion Japanese Yen, or approximately 8,157 crore Indian Rupees, in March 2021.

"In 2022, we will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of India's independence, as well as the 20th Anniversary of the inauguration of Delhi Metro. Coincidentally, the year 2022 is also the 70th Anniversary of Japan-India Diplomatic Relations. So, today’s ceremony is a great preview of this bright year to come," said the Japanese Ambassador.
