Indigo launches special scheme for doctors and nurses

Low cost Gurugram-based airline major IndiGo will provide up to 25 per cent ‘Tough Cookie’ discount on airfares to nurses and doctors who have served in these challenging times.

The airline launched the ‘Tough Cookie’ campaign on the occasion of National Doctor's Day to express gratitude towards the tireless commitment and service being provided by the medical fraternity to the nation.

“As part of the campaign, IndiGo will provide up to 25 per cent ‘Tough Cookie' discount on airfares to the nurses and doctors who have serviced in these challenging times,” the airline said in a statement.

According to the airline, the nurses and doctors will be required to provide valid hospital IDs at the time of check-in as a proof of their identity.

“The discount will be offered while booking through IndiGo's website, valid for sale and travel from July 1 till December 31, 2020,” the airline said.

The aviation sector has been one of the worst impacted industries from the fallout of Covid 19 outbreak and the consequent national lockdown which was implemented to curb the pandemic.

Besides, the outbreak has induced economic contraction and heavily impacted the travel industry.

Meanwhile, IndiGo expects a rebound in domestic passenger traffic in the next five months, notwithstanding the Covid 19 induced economic challenges, the airline’s chief commercial officer, William Boulter said.

Flight services, although limited, have resumed from May 25.

The sector is a high frequency indicator of country's economic growth.

A rebound in passenger traffic and aircraft movement will be taken as a sign of an eventual revival in the overall economy.

Passenger air services were suspended on March 25 due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of Covid 19. At present, all airlines are allowed to deploy only 45 per cent of their total capacity to service domestic routes. However, even with capped capacity, domestic airlines were able to ferry around two million passengers during the past one month..
