India administering 45 lakh vaccines on an average daily basis: SBI

Large percentage of the population in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan have already administered with both doses of the Covid 19 vaccine.

States like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Bihar among others need to push up vaccination a State Bank of India (SBI) analysis said.

According to SBI, 70 per cent Indian adults will be vaccinated with one dose only by end November if on an average 45 lakh doses are administered daily. They will be vaccinated with both shots by March 2022.

In the states where more than 50 per cent of eligible population is vaccinated with single dose, there the second wave cumulative fatality rate is on an average less than 1 per cent, it said.

The good news is that the pace of vaccination has picked up in rural areas.

Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala have already given double doses to larger percentage of population above 60 years.

Meanwhile, sources said that New Delhi is not likely to resume exports of Covid 19 vaccines until all adults in the country get fully vaccinated.

For economic activities to pick up, India needs to avert a third wave, even as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a massive Rs 6.29 lakh crore stimulus package with the aim to revive the economy and help the country fight against the deadly pandemic.
