Customs officials seize 7.3 kg of gold at Hyderabad airport smuggled from Dubai by Sudanese nationals

Customs authorities at Hyderabad airport recovered 7.3 kg of gold worth Rs 3.6 crore that was being smuggled into the country by four Sudanese passengers who arrived from Dubai.

The two men and two women arrived on a Dubai-Hyderabad Air India flight and had concealed the gold paste in their rectums. The gold is valued at around Rs 3.6 crores.

Customs officials are carrying out further investigation to find the links of the smugglers in the country.

Dubai is a major gold buying hub as prices are much cheaper than India and no questions are asked from shoppers.

In a similar incident in July, Customs authorities in Chennai had nabbed a man travelling from Dubai with 810 grams of gold worth over Rs 40 lakh hidden in his rectum, in the form of four bundles of gold paste.

Customs authorities had earlier in October this year also seized 6 kg of gold from a passenger on a Dubai-Hyderabad flight in the form of gold paste concealed in a rechargeable lantern.
