Centre okays Rs 26,000 crore war chest for 25,000 new towers to boost digital connectivity

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, has highlighted the importance of connectivity for expansion of Digital India and its reach to every corner of the country. He added that Rs 26,000 crore has been approved to install 25,000 new towers in the next 500 days.

The minister speaking at the concluding day of the “Digital India Conference of State IT Ministers”, said that all state governments and union territories will need to participate and work towards the ethos of Sabka Saath -Sabka Vikas. He said that states irrespective of the size–large and small, are vital in taking Digital India to the next level and moving towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self reliant India. The three day long conference began on October 1.

He added that states and UTs have expedited measures to boost PM Gati Shakti drive as well.

Secretary, MeitY, Alkesh Kumar Sharma, who was also present on the occasion said ‘Digital By Default’ approach and principles of Presence-less, Contact-less, Paperless, Anytime, Anywhere and Invite less services are vital to improve and deliver personalised and proactive services.

He also pointed out that in addition to incentives announced by the Centre, state level policies and financial incentives would play an important role in attracting companies that will eventually generate jobs and revenue.
