Mirabai’s first exposure to weightlifting started with picking firewood in her village in Manipur. She displayed an early talent and could lift much heavier piles of wood than her older siblings.

It was Kunjarani Devi, another famous weightlifter from Manipur, whose achievements inspired Mirabai to take up the sport. The courageous girl has taken in her stride a whole set of injuries and the setback at the Rio Olympics where she could not even complete the event. There are already suggestions on social media that Mirabai could be the subject of another biopic on a sportsperson much like Dangal and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
