Bangladesh minister meets Jaishankar, flags connectivty and investments

Amid rapidly changing geopolitical dynamics, Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, who was in New Delhi, held meetings with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla to discuss issues of mutual interest including those particularly related to connectivity, people to people contact and investments.</p>
<p>
Besides they also discussed ways to jointly handle the Covid 19 pandemic.</p>

Speaking at the launch of a book titled, A Bangladesh War Commentary, by the late U.L. Baruah, Mahmud said that Bangladesh today has surpassed Pakistan in the development index. According to <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/international/bangladesh-ahead-of-pakistan-in-all-development-indices-says-its-information-minister/article36348615.ece">the Hindu</a>, Mahmud noted how his country was devastated by the Pakistan military but after liberation in 1971, it has emerged as a model of socio economic development for countries in Asia and Africa.</p>

“Today where Bangladesh stands and where Pakistan stands. In economic index, in social index and in human index — in all index – we have crossed Pakistan. Our foreign currency reserve is more than double of Pakistan. Our life expectancy is 73 years and in Pakistan it is 67 years,” the newspaper quoted Mahmud as saying at the Indian Council of World Affairs.</p>
<p>
Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/2021/09/07/hasan-meets-jaishankar-anurag-in-new-delhi">Dhaka Tribune</a> in a report added that the status of the biopic "Bangabandhu" –  a joint venture documentary film of Bangladesh and India, on the Liberation of Bangladesh and other joint initiatives marking the golden jubilee of independence of the South Asian nation was also discussed.</p>
