Delhi police has busted a racket in which online shoppers were being cheated with offers of two smartphones for a mere Rs 4,500 but were being delivered soaps or cheap wallets or belts instead. As many as 53 people, 46 of them women, have been arrested from the city’s Rohini area, according to a police statement.

In order to convince customers of their authenticity, the gang used India Post as the logistics service provider and gave buyers a cash on delivery option. Police have said the racket had been targeting people across several states.

According to police, they conducted simultaneous raids at the two offices in Rohini from where the racket was running and arrested 53 people in all.

Police have seized six computers, 1 bar code scanner, 2 bar code bundles, 5 modems and 86 cell phones, besides registers with customer details and parcel boxes for the deliveries, the official statement added.
