46 women among gang of 53 arrested in Delhi for duping online shoppers nationwide

Delhi police has busted a racket in which online shoppers were being cheated with offers of two smartphones for a mere Rs 4,500 but were being delivered soaps or cheap wallets or belts instead. As many as 53 people, 46 of them women, have been arrested from the city’s Rohini area, according to a police statement. </p>
<p>
Most of the arrested persons are in their twenties.</p>
<p>
In order to convince customers of their authenticity, the gang used India Post as the logistics service provider and gave buyers a cash on delivery option. The customers were forced to rush their decisions as these were made out to be only one-day offers. But instead of sending Redmi or Vivo phones which cost around Rs 18,000, they sent cheap wallets, belt, soaps etc. in the parcel, according to the Delhi police statement.</p>

Police have said the racket had been targeting people across several states.</p>
<p>
According to police, they conducted simultaneous raids at the two offices in Rohini from where the racket was running and arrested 53 people in all.</p>
<p>
Police have seized six computers, 1 bar code scanner, 2 bar code bundles, 5 modems and 86 cell phones, besides registers with customer details and parcel boxes for the deliveries, the official statement added.</p>
