Australia’s cricket stars Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis celebrated their T20 World Cup victory after beating New Zealand in the finals on Sunday in a bizarre manner with the duo drinking champagne from Wade’s shoe.
In a video posted on ICC's Instagram handle, Wade is seen removing his right shoe, pouring a drink in it and then gulping it down with his Australian teammates and support staff cheering him on.
Stoinis, had partnered Wade in a crucial role in helping Australia beat Pakistan in the semi-final, then joins his teammate by pouring his drink in the same shoe and glugging it down.
But Stoinis didn’t appear to like the taste and is heard saying "it's a little shoddy".
The practice of a “shoey” celebration was apparently first started by Australia's Formula 1 champion driver Daniel Ricciardo after winning the 2016 German Grand Prix.
