Prominent industrialist Anand Mahindra, chairman of auto giant Mahindra and Mahindra, has shared a video of a jugaad electric two-wheeler, built at a cost of around Rs 10000, that can carry six people.
Mahindra wrote on Twitter, “With just small design inputs, (cylindrical sections for the chassis @BosePratap?) this device could find global application. As a tour ‘bus’ in crowded European tourist centres? I’m always impressed by rural transport innovations, where necessity is the mother of invention.”
The clip shows a youngster riding on a narrow mud lane amid fields. He discloses that as many as six people can travel in the vehicle and the manufacturing cost was between Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000. The vehicle has a range of 150 kilometres once it is charged. He charges Rs 10 per trip from his passengers from his village to the local town.
