Kerala added another attraction to its tourist spots as India’s longest cantilever glass bridge was inaugurated in the State at Vagamon or Wagamon in Idukki district. With the coming up of this bridge, tourists can now experience a walk across a deep abyss.
Located on the Vagamon hills, this bridge is at a height of 3,600 feet above sea level, and has a length of 40 metres or 120 feet. The glass walkway hugs the green-covered hill and standing at the end of the bridge one can enjoy a panoramic and stunning view of the hills and valleys covered in greenery and get a distant view of Koottikkal and Kokkayar towns nearby.
Steel cables hold the bridge along with a colossal pole structure. At a given time, a total of 15 persons can enjoy walking on the bridge. According to officials, a total of 35 tonnes of steel imported from Germany, has been used for the construction of the bridge.
The bridge was inaugurated by P.A. Mohammed, Kerala Tourism Minister on Wednesday. He also inaugurated the adventure tourism park. This park offers varied facilities to the visitors including sky swing, sky roller, sky cycling, and rocket injector, giant swing and zip line.
The project was launched by the district tourism promotion council in association with Bharat Mata Ventures Pvt Ltd on a public-private-partnership model and a sum of Rs.3 crores were spent on it.
